Back from GPCWC . . . you need a conference!
I’ll say this straight-up, writer to writer: If you have never attended a writer’s conference and you desire to be published . . . you are missing out. Find a conference near you, save your money, get off work, prepare your manuscript, pray, pray, and then pray some more, then see what God will do.
Once again, this year’s Greater Philly Christian Writer’s Conference was a blast and a blessing. I attended a continuing session where Patricia Hickman taught about developing believable, 3-dimensional characters; I took workshops in marketing, promoting, blogging, writing tight, and tracking the details in your story. And on top of all that, I had one-on-one time with Stacy Hawkins Adams, Mindy Starns Clark, and Pam Perry, who shared invaluable information about marketing and promoting books, and Terry Burns, who shared with me his technique for overcoming shyness.
And on top of all that, I got to meet CFBA’s very own fearless leader, Bonnie Calhoun.
Conferences are great places to connect with other writers who share the same passion as you and to learn from authors and agents and editors and publicists who have travelled the road ahead of you and are there to share their experiences and wisdom and encouragement. And who knows, you may meet that one somebody whom God will use to open a door for you to land a contract with an agent or editor.
If you’ve never attended a conference, stop thinking about it and just do it! You won’t regret it.
