Report from the Journey: Endorsements
So, I’m in the process of emailing various authors and other notables in the publishing industry to ask them if they would be willing to read my upcoming novel, THE HUNTED (coming in June, 2008, Realms Fiction), and possibly give a couple-sentence endorsement for it. It is a humbling venture to say the least. I’m asking individuals who I admire and have gone down the road ahead of me, some are light years ahead of me, way better writers than I am.
Anxiety doesn’t even begin to fit how one feels in this spot. Thankfully, I’ve had 6 of the ten (so far) I asked say they would be happy to read my novel and possibly endorse it. Now, I have to actually send it to them. Again, there’s that word . . . anxiety . . . and the admonisment (be anxious for nothing!!). Will they like it? Will they think it’s garbage and have to tell me they don’t feel comfortable endorsing it? Will I ever hear from them again? Have I just dug my own grave, buried myself, and planted the flowers?
Putting your work out there for your mentors, peers, and “heroes” to read and possibly endorse is like walking into church on a Sunday morning with nothing on but your boxers.
But what can I do? Send it, wait, chew my nails, gain 50 pounds, and pray for anti-anxiety . . . peace no matter what. In the midst of the storm. When questions abound. When I have no idea what lies over the next mountain. When there’s nothing else I can do. Peace.
Okay, I have to go send the first one off.
