A Writing Book You Must Get!!
Almost two years ago I read Stephen King’s On Writing . . . now I’m going through it again, and next year I’ll probably go through it again. It’s a book (memoir really) about his challenging childhood, struggle to make ends meet while living in a dirthole apartment in Maine with a wife and two kids, and finally making it big. His memories are both depressing and uplifting. It’s also a book about writing (nuts and bolts and all), something King takes very seriously and has a lot to offer by way of advice.
Listen, think what you want to about Stephen King, his genre, his ideas, his style, but he is one of the hardest working, most well-known, and most successful authors of our time. In many writing circles he’s known only as “the master.” Like him or not, he’s got a lot of experience under his belt, a lot of ups and downs, struggles and victories to share. And the guy can flat out write.
If you’re serious about writing, get the book (you can get the mass market version on Amazon for under 4 bucks), read it, then read it again, and by gum, do what it says.
