Yesterday, on my way to work I was listening to our local Christian radio station, WJTL (you can listen online). Every morning they play a brief segment by Joni Eareckson Tada offering words of encouragement and wisdom and yesterday’s was especially remarkable. Joni said, the most God-forsaken man who ever lived suffered that kind of separation, that kind of isolation, so he could say to us, “I will never leave you and I will never forsake you.”

Read that again and let it sink in. Jesus suffered terrible physical affliction:beatings, torture, mockings, and finally crucifixion. But he also suffered separation from the Father. His Father. He was indeed God-forsaken.

And he did it so he could assure us we’d never be forsaken by him.

Amazing. Humbling. Comforting.

It was something I needed to hear at this time in my life.

Thank you, Jesus. Thank you.
