Help Needed

Okay, so what does an author do when the story requires him to write what he does not know, when it takes him into unfamiliar territory. Well, that’s when research happens. And the internet is a great place for research. But sometimes the research has to be on a personal level, an interview, a firsthand account. The author needs to talk to and learn from a person who’s been there, done that.

So here’s my dilemma, for my next book, Darkness Follows, one of the POV characters is a U.S. Senator and presidential hopeful. Obviously, I’ve never been a senator, at least not that I remember, nor would I ever want to be a senator, so I need to talk to someone who has at least been around politicians, who has maybe been inside a senator’s office in D.C. or around a senator’s staff. Someone who knows the layout, the jargon, the attitudes, the ins and outs.

Anyone out there like that? Anyone who knows a bit about how Washington works, who’s on a senator’s staff, what a typical day looks like? Anyone? If so and you’re willing to spill some beans, go to my contact page and email me privately. Please. I don’t need a bunch of dirt (no John Edwards stuff), just the typical “life of a senator” stuff (‘course, maybe that is typical).

  3. Sorry I can’t help with this one, Mike. I pray the Lord will help you connect with someone. Did you ask at your church? I found one of my experts at my church. 🙂

  4. I haven’t checked at church. Good idea, Susan. I don’t think there is anyone there who had D.C. experience but I could be wrong; it’s a large church.
